We’re a fortnightly critique group on Monday evenings for poets looking to share poems and get supportive and constructive feedback. We’re open to all genres, forms and styles of poetry.
Don’t worry if you’re new to poetry or have never been to a writers’ group; we are emerging writers seeking to help each other improve.
Just come prepared to read, introduce and discuss your work, and to receive feedback with an open mind. Please ask to audit a session to see if this feedback group suits your needs. It is a time commitment, as it involves sending work in advance, and then preparing written feedback to up to 8 other poets before a session. Active participation is mandatory.
Sessions are currently online and are roughly two hours long. If there is time to spare, writers share work they love by published poets.
We each workshop a single poem of up to about 80 lines per session, although this isn’t a strict limit. To allow for in-depth feedback on longer pieces, poems can be split across several sessions. It goes without saying that poets get to decide what counts as a single poem. So, yes, poem sequences, such as haiku and senryu sequences, are more than welcome.
We aim to keep the numbers stable, so we can get to know one another's writing styles and personalities. This also allows for feedback on long poems, poetry pamphlets and poetry collections. However, feel free to join sessions on an ad-hoc basis whenever you have a poem that you want to workshop.
